Waka Flocka Flame Biography

Juaquin James Malphurs was born Waka Flocka Flame on May 31, 1986 in South Jamaica, New York, to an upper middle-class African-American family. The family relocated to Georgia shortly after he was born. Despite the fact that his mother was the CEO of a renowned talent management organisation called Mizay Entertainment, Waka had no interest in music.

He was a basketball junkie and spent the majority of his free time on basketball courts. When he was 14 years old, a watershed moment occurred in his life. In a bizarre automobile accident, one of his older brothers was killed.

This had a profound effect on Waka, who grew more removed from the notion of a profession and spent the most of his time on the streets of Atlanta, hanging out with local gang members.

The entire mixtape gradually spread throughout the country, heralding Waka’s entry into the mainstream and into Gucci Mane’s 1017 Brick Squad. He met misfortune in January 2010 when he was shot twice during a robbery attempt in his hometown. It was said to be as a result of his instant celebrity.

However, his troubles did not end there. Method Man, a popular rapper, slammed Waka for his lack of sensibility in his raps. In October 2010, Waka released his self-titled debut album, ‘Flockaveli,’ which debuted at number six on the Billboard 200. Waka responded to the critiques by naming the album after an Italian political theorist.

Additionally, he drew inspiration for the lyrics from Tupac Shakur, who was notorious for writing poetry disguised as raps. The album ‘Flockaveli’ was a critical and popular success.

The album’s first song, ‘She be Putting On,’ featured Slim Dunkin, a close friend of Waka’s. Another track on the album, ‘Round of Applause,’ featured Canadian superstar Drake.

By mid-2012, Waka had completed work on his sophomore studio album, dubbed ‘Triple F Life- Friends, Fans, and Family’.

The album, which includes duets with Drake, Nicki Minaj, Ludacris, and Meek Mill, debuted at number ten on the Billboard 200. Waka announced in early 2013 that he has completed production on his forthcoming studio album, named ‘Flockaveli 2’.

However, the record remained unreleased for several years, during which time Waka concentrated on his other endeavours. ‘DuFlocka Rant 2’ was his follow-up mixtape, which was followed by ‘Roches to Rollies’ in 2013. Meanwhile, he released his third mixtape, dubbed ‘DuFlocka Rant: Halftime’.

Waka collaborated with DJ Whoo Kid on a mixtape named ‘The Turn Up Godz Tour’ in March 2015. Waka dropped the mixtapes ‘Salute me or Shoot me 5’ and ‘Flockaveli 1.5’ in 2015. In 2017, he finally revealed the release date of his forthcoming album, which will be in 2018.
