Teri Garr was born in Lakewood, Ohio, on December 11, 1944 (other accounts claim 1947). Phyllis Lind, a dancer and model, was her mother’s partner. Her father was Eddie Garr, a well-known actor and comedian. It’s Ed and Phil, her two elder brothers. Her family relocated often due to her father’s job.

Her father died when she was just eleven years old, leaving her mother to raise her alone. For the sake of her three children, her mother worked in a costume department at NBC and other studios in order to earn a living for the family. Teri acquired her love for dancing around this period.
