Skepta Biography

Skepta was born Joseph Junior Adenuga in Tottenham, North London, on September 19, 1982. His parents, Ivy and Joseph Adenuga are Nigerian immigrants who came to England in search of a brighter future for their children.

His mother penned a memoir about her escape from Nigeria’s civil war. He is the eldest of four siblings and grew up in Tottenham’s Meridian Walk Estate. Jamie Adenuga, better known as Jme, is his brother and a musician. Skepta received his education at Winchmore Council School.

He released two singles from his forthcoming fourth album, ‘Hold On’ and ‘Make Peace Not War’, in 2012—’Hold On’ and ‘Make Peace Not War’.

The singles discovered were among the UK’s Top 40 charting hits. Following a lackluster response to his first two tracks, he dropped a mixtape titled ‘Blacklisted’ on December 2, 2012. He released a single, ‘That’s Not Me,’ on June 8, 2014, featuring his brother Jme. The single peaked at number twenty-one in the United Kingdom.

It was subsequently released as the lead single from his fourth studio album, ‘Konnichiwa’. That same month, he contributed a verse to Meridian Dan’s remix of ‘German Whip.’ He followed up with another song, ‘It Ain’t Safe,’ in 2014, and ‘Shutdown,’ in 2015.

He released the single ‘Ladies Hit Squad’ on February 14, 2016, featuring American rapper A$AP Nast and grime musician D Double E. Skepta’s fourth studio album, ‘Konnichiwa’, was released via ‘Boy Better Know’ on May 6, 2016.

Skepta presented the album at a party in Tokyo, where he performed the entire album live. The album had four chart-topping singles, with ‘That’s Not Me,’ ‘Shutdown,’ and ‘Man’ reaching the Top 40. The record gained considerable critical acclaim. It was also listed in a lot of worldwide top albums lists for 2016.
