Scarface Career

As a child, Brad developed an interest in music, and he began his career by producing songs under the umbrella of ‘Short Stop Records,’ which was owned by American rapper Lil’ Troy. Initially going by the alias ‘DJ Akshen,’ he eventually changed it to ‘Scarface,’ after being inspired by the Al Pacino-starring film of the same name.

When the emerging rapper recorded the tune ‘Scarface/Another Head Put To Rest’ in 1989, music producer Bruce “Grim” Rhodes released it on his label, Scarface Records.

As a result, he quickly obtained a recording contract with ‘Rap-A-Lot Records,’ while also becoming a member of the hip-hop group ‘Geto Boys,’ which also included rap artists Bushwick Bill and Willie D.

Scarface collaborated with ‘Geto Boys’ on the album ‘Grip It! On That Other Level’, which was released in 1989. The record was a commercial success, and despite the fact that their songs were forbidden from being broadcast on television and radio, they managed to achieve widespread popularity.

The following year, he released his first solo album, ‘Mr. Scarface Is Back,’ which was a commercial success, peaking at number 51 on the ‘Billboard 200’ chart.

Aside from that, the skilled rapper teamed with other artists like Bushwick Bill and Ice Cube to offer his voice to the 1992 studio album ‘Live and Let Die,’ which included hip-hop singers DJ Polo and Kool G Rap.

Scarface’s second studio album, ‘The World Is Yours,’ was released in 1993 and made it into the ‘Billboard 200,’ although it did not achieve the same level of success as his debut album.

After that, ‘The Diary’, which had songs such as ‘Hand of the Dead Body’ and ‘I Seen A Man Die’, was released, and it peaked at number two on the ‘Billboard 200’ chart the following year. Two further albums, ‘The Untouchable’ and ‘My Homies,’ were released in 1997 and 1998, respectively.

Both albums hit the pinnacle of their respective careers by reaching the top of the ‘Billboard’ charts. “Damn It Feels Good To Be a Gangsta,” “Still,” and “Damn It Feels Good to Be a Gangsta” are three tunes from the Geto Boys’ album that Scarface provided to the 1999 Mike Judge film “Office Space.”

He even gave one of his singles, ‘No Tears,’ to the film, which was released the same year. In 2000, he was promoted to the position of regional manager for Def Jam Recordings’ southern office.

Scarface was the president at the time, and it was he who was responsible for establishing the career of famed American rapper Ludacris. In the same year, he released the album ‘The Last of a Dying Breed,’ which, while it was not well received by his following base, was a big success with music reviewers and was certified platinum.

In the same year, the famed rapper released his solo album, ‘The Fix,’ coupled with an album by the ‘Geto Boys’ called ‘The Foundation.’ During the same period, he teamed with vocalists Akon and Big Gee to contribute to a posthumous album of rap legend The Notorious B.I.G., dubbed ‘The Biggie Duets,’ which was released after the rapper’s death.

From 2003 through 2007, he released three solo albums, titled ‘Balls and My Word’, ‘My Homies Part 2’, and ‘Made’, which were all certified platinum.

His role in the film ‘Idiocracy’, directed by Mike Judge, was apparently cast at the same time period as well. Rap-a-Lot Records in the United States released Scarface’s album ‘Emeritus’ in 2008, which was produced by the same company.

The album, which included songs such as ‘Forgot About Me’ and ‘Redemption Song,’ amongst others, became a worldwide hit with reviewers and audiences alike. Around the same period, he collaborated with vocalist Tech N9ne on the song ‘Pillow Talkin’, which was featured on the latter’s album ‘Killer.’

Throughout the following years, he collaborated with a variety of artists, including Ice Cube, John Legend, Eminem, Drake, and Freeway, among others. Aside from that, he appeared in the 3D wrestling computer games Def Jam Vendetta’ and ‘Def Jam: Fight for New York,’ respectively.

It was only recently that his autobiography “Diary of a Madman,” in which he writes extensively about his musical career, was published.
