Michael Singletary is a former player and professional football coach in the United States. Singletary was picked by the Chicago Bears in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft after playing college football for the Baylor Bears. He was a member of the team that won the Super Bowl X. Mike Singletary Biography

Mike Singletary was the tenth of 10 children born in Houston, Texas. Charles Singletary, Singletary’s father, was a Dallas street preacher. The family quickly made their home in Houston. Mike lived in a little wood-frame house with his father, Charles, mother, Rudell, and other brothers and sisters.

The Church of God, which Charles Singletary built himself and where he played guitar every Sunday, was located next to their home.

Singletary was selected in the second round of the 1981 NFL Draft by the Chicago Bears. Despite the fact that he did not start the first seven games of the 1981 season, he was named to the NFL’s all-rookie team.

For the first time since his first season in 1983, Singletary has maintained his middle linebacker position. He has been the Bears’ first or second-leading tackler in each of the last ten seasons, dating back to his breakout season in 1983.

In the ten years between 1983 and 1992, he appeared in ten consecutive Pro Bowls, seven of which he was named to the first-team All-Pro team.

His two NFL Defensive Player of the Year awards came in 1985 and 1988, the latter of which came following the 1985 Bears’ season in which he was the anchor of a defense that is widely regarded as the best ever in professional football history, as the 1985 Bears allowed just 12.4 points per game in the regular season and won their three playoff games by a combined score of 90–10 on their way to winning the championship.

Following his retirement from the NFL, Singletary spent time as a motivational speaker before deciding to pursue a coaching career. The Baltimore Ravens hired him as linebackers coach in 2003, and two years later he accepted the same position with the San Francisco 49ers. He has been with the team since 2003. Singletary was appointed as interim head coach when Mike Nolan was sacked during the 49ers’ 2008 season.

In 2009, he was promoted to permanent head coach after leading the team to a 5–4 record for the remainder of the season. The 49ers, on the other hand, faltered, and he was dismissed near the end of the regular season in 2010.




Singletary was an assistant coach and linebackers coach for the Minnesota Vikings from 2011 to 2013, and he was a member of the Los Angeles Rams coaching staff in 2016. In 1998, he was inducted into the Pro Football Hall of Fame in his first year of eligibility, earning him the highest honor in his sport.
