Kirk Douglas and Diana Dill gave birth to Michael Kirk Douglas on 25 September 1944 in the city of New Brunswick, New Jersey, United States. He was the eldest son of the famed actor Kirk Douglas, and his mother was also a well-known actress. He is the younger brother of a younger sibling and has two half-brothers.

Michael Douglas began his education at New York City’s Allen-Stevenson School, then transferred to Eaglebrook School and eventually to Choate Preparatory School.
