Gray was born in Merced, California, but spent the majority of his childhood in Dover, Delaware. While attending Polytech High School in Woodside, Delaware, he received three varsity letters.
He guided the club to the Henlopen Conference’s Southern Division title in 2010. Gray averaged 15 points, 12 rebounds, and 11 blocks per game during his senior season. He then committed to play collegiate football with the Delaware State Hornets.

Kendall Gray Career
Gray received two MEAC Defensive Player of the Week accolades despite being limited to just 17 games as a freshman. When he went down with an injury, he was ninth in NCAA Division I with 54 blocks.
He remained healthy for the final three seasons of his collegiate career and continued to progress statistically each year. He averaged 11.5 points, 7.9 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game as a junior, earning him Second Team All-MEAC honors.
Gray upped those averages to 12.3, 12.4, and 2.8 in 2014–15. Gray had a 33-point, 30-rebound performance against Coppin State on March 5, 2015. It was the most rebound in a single Division I game in ten years, and he became just the seventh player in the last 40 seasons to record at least 30 rebounds in a game.
Gray was voted Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year by the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference the next day. He is the only player in conference history to have won both accolades in the same season, joining Kyle O’Quinn.
Gray joined with Medi Bayreuth of the Basketball Bundesliga on July 23, 2015, after going undrafted in the 2015 NBA draught. On January 18, 2016, he announced his departure from Medi Bayreuth. On March 31, he was acquired by the NBA Development League’s Iowa Energy but did not play for them. Gray joined MKS Dbrowa Górnicza of the Polish League on August 23, 2016.
Gray joined with the Dominican League’s Soles de Santo Domingo Este on June 6, 2018. Gray returned to the Long Island Nets in 2018–19. On September 16, 2019, he signed with the Basketball Bundesliga’s Gießen 46ers.
Gray finished the season with an average of 3.3 points and 1.9 rebounds per game. He signed with JS Kairouan of the Championnat National A on October 11, 2021.
