Doris Rowland Garrison and Christopher Lovett gave birth to Kelendria Trene Rowland on February 11, 1981. In order to protect Kelly, her mother left her abusive and drunken father behind. After moving to Houston, Doris put Kelly in a hip-hop and dance ensemble called Girl’s Tyme, which included Beyonce Knowles and LaTavia Roberson at the time of its formation in 1992.

He welcomed them in after seeing their performance at The Plant Recording Studio. He made their debut on the most popular national television talent show at the time, Star Search, but lost the finals. Mathew Knowles, Beyonce’s father, took over the management of Girl’s Tyme.
