He graduated from the University of Texas, Arlington, in 1978, with a B.A. in Civil Engineering.

Kelcy Warren began his career with the Lone Star Gas Company. He worked with Endevco from 1981 to 1992. From 1989 to 1990 he was Executive Vice President Cornerstone Natural Gas, and from 1993 to 1996 he was Chairman and CEO.
Since 2007, he is co-chairman and co-CEO of Energy Transfer Partners. He serves as a member of ETP Enogex Partners LLC’s board of directors, ETC OLP’s co-CEO, and La Grange Energy co-CEO and US Propane LLC. He is the former OEC Compression co-chairman of Le Gp.
He is on the Consultative Board of his alma institution at Arlington University of Texas. In 2007, he acquired the insolvent Lajitas Resorts, a property venture in Lajitas, Texas. In 2008, Warren acquired the Roatan Electric Company (RECO), where he serves as Chairman of the Board. RECO is spending $7 million on a full wind farm in 2017.
Warren also serves as Chairman of the Energy Transfer Equity General Partner. Prior to the merging of the ETP and Heritage Propane companies in 2004, Warren was responsible for co-founding the entities acquiring and operating midstream natural gas pipelines involved.
Warren worked as Crosstex Energy Inc. Managing Director from 1996 to 2000 and as President, Chief Operating Officer, and Director of Cornerstone Natural Gas, Inc., from 1993 to 1996. Warren has over 25 years of expertise in the energy sector.
In 2015, Greg Abbott of Texas designated Warren as a member of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Commission. In 2007, alongside Jimmy LaFave and Fred Remmert, he co-founded an independent record company, Music Road Records. He collects memorabilia music, such as Jackson Browne’s signatures and Eagles’ drumsticks.
