Marianne and Robert Urban welcomed Keith into the world on October 26, 1967, in Whangarei, New Zealand. Sir Edmund Hillary College, in Otara, South Auckland, New Zealand, was his first choice for secondary education, but he dropped out at the age of 15 to concentrate on music.

With his parents, Keith Urban relocated to the city of Caboolture, in Queensland, Australia, at the age of 17. His parents were big fans of American country music, and they fostered their son’s musical interests. His father set up guitar lessons for him.

Aside from performing solo and with a band, Keith was active in local music competitions. Reg Lindsay’s Country Homestead and other television shows helped Keith Urban build a foothold in the Australian country music market. He and his music partner Jenny Wilson also won a golden guitar award at the Tamworth Country Music Festival.

EMI Australia published Keith Urban’s self-titled debut album in 1991. While touring with Slim Dusty in the early 1990s, he covered Dusty’s hit song “Lights on the Hill” and recorded a new version of it. He also accompanied Dusty in a performance at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville.

In 1992, he relocated to the United States. For years, he tried to find his feet and developed a cocaine addiction while living in the slums. He collaborated with artists including Alan Jackson, Toby Keith, and Vernon in the mid-1990s.

In 1997, he and fellow musicians Jerry Flowers and Peter Clarke founded ‘The Ranch,’ a country music band. Besides being the main vocalist, Keith performed a variety of instruments in the band. Only one album and two singles were released before the band disbanded in 1998.

In 1998, he was admitted to Cumberland Heights, a rehabilitation facility, for treatment of his cocaine addiction. In 1999, a year after he came clean, he released his self-titled debut album in the United States under the name “Keith Urban.” He finally had the breakthrough he had been looking for with the success of the record.

In 2002, he released his second album, ‘Golden Road.’ As a result of its inclusion on the Hot Country Songs list, three of its songs — including the hit single “Somebody Like You,” “Who Wouldn’t Wanna Be Me,” and “You’ll Think of Me” — went to number one.

As a result of the success of his 2004 album “Be Here,” he has three Hot Country Songs chart-toppers and two second-place hits.

Nine of the tracks on this album were original compositions by Keith, who also produced and arranged the record. In 2009, he published his debut album, titled ‘Defying Gravity.’ ‘Sweet Thing’, the album’s lead-off single, topped the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.

It was a huge commercial success, and it was nominated for a Grammy Award for the best pop vocal album.

Get Closer was released in 2010 and earned favorable reviews from the music press. Since its release in September 2013, ‘Fuse,’ his latest album, has topped both the Billboard 200 and the US Top Country Albums charts, with a more diverse sound and stronger lyrics. He released ‘Ripcord,’ his tenth studio album, in 2016.

Pitbull, Carrie Underwood, and Nile Rodgers are among the artists he worked with on this album. 59th Annual Grammy Awards nomination for Best Country Album for the album.

This year, ‘Ripcord’ was awarded Platinum certification.’ Graffiti U was released in 2018 and The Speed of Now Part 1 will be released in 2020, with Urban’s tenth and eleventh studio albums respectively.
