Joey Badass Biography

Joey was born Jo-Vaughn Virginie Scott on January 20, 1995, in Brooklyn’s East Flatbush area.  Joey was the family’s first member to be born in the United States of America. When Joey was a child, he showed an interest in literature and the English language and began writing poems and songs at the age of eleven.

Because he had always desired a career in acting, he enrolled at Edward R. Murrow High School, which had a reputation for nurturing emerging actors.

He participated in numerous school productions in order to gain recognition as an actor. Joey also played a significant role in one of his high school’s productions, ‘John Cusack is Not a Famous Actor.’ By the time he turned 15, he was certain he wanted to pursue acting professionally.

However, fate had other ideas for him. When he noticed a few rappers performing at his school, he approached them and begged to join them, as he was attracted by their talent. He quickly became friends with a slew of rappers.

This switched his emphasis away from acting and toward music. However, acting was never far from his thoughts, and he reasoned that music may introduce him to the field. Capital Steez, one of their group’s members, came up with the concept of organizing a rap collective.

They formed a rap group called ‘Pro Era,’ which is an abbreviation for ‘Professional Era.’ Joey and another rapper, Powers Pleasant, co-founded the group.




He initially rapped under the nickname JayOhVee but eventually changed his stage name to his current one. ‘Pro Era’ quickly created a video showcasing the group’s rapping abilities and uploaded it to YouTube. The video quickly spread over the internet, finally catching the notice of Jonny Shipes, creator of Cinematic Music Group.

Jonny then approached Joey and requested him to write raps and songs for his label. Joey accepted his idea but required that he sign all players of the ‘Pro Era.’ Jonny agreed, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Additionally, Joey began lending his ears to a variety of contemporary rap artists and incorporating their approaches into his music. Joey is presently managed by Jonny Shipes.

On December 24, 2012, Capital Steez, the founder of ‘Pro Era,’ committed suicide. The investigation reports indicated that it was a murder case.

Joey first partnered with Capital Steez, the originator of ‘Pro Era,’ in 2012, when they published the music video for ‘Survival Tactics’ on their official YouTube channel. The tape was produced by Cinematic Music Group and recorded at Relentless Records. RED Distribution distributed the tape.

‘Survival Tactics’ was partially influenced by ‘2000 Fold,’ the hip-hop collective ‘Styles of Beyond’s debut studio album. Joey made his independent artist debut in July 2012 with the release of the mixtape ‘1999’. The tape immediately gained popularity and was quickly included in Complex magazine’s list of the ‘top 40 albums of the year.’

Joey then released another mixtape, this time featuring the album’s remaining tunes. It was released on September 6, 2012, under the title ‘Rejex.’ One of the reasons for his early success was that he experimented with and blended numerous musical genres. Although it was a risky move, it proved to be a recipe for great music.

Joey’s career took off in 2013 with the release of his second mixtape, ‘Summer Knights.’ ‘Unorthodox,’ a single from the tape, was already a hit when it was released earlier that year. Summer Knights were originally supposed to be released as an extended play but were instead released as a mixtape for unknown reasons.

Joey did, in fact, release an EP version of the song on October 29, 2013. The EP debuted at number 48 on Billboard’s ‘Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums’ chart. Joey received his first BET Award nomination in 2013 for ‘Best New Artist.’

Joey’s ambition of becoming an actor came true when he was cast in the short film ‘No Regrets’ in 2014. The film’s plot was partially based on his own experiences. He released the lead single from his forthcoming album, ‘Big Dusty,’ in August.

On 12 August 2014, the full-length studio album was published. He had a live appearance on the popular talk show ‘The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon’ in January 2015.

He then shared the stage alongside some of Hip-most hop’s illustrious performers, including BJ The Chicago Kid, The Roots, and Statik Selektah. On January 20, 2017, he released his follow-up album ‘B4.DA.$$,’ which also commemorated his twentieth birthday.

The album’s title is a play on the term ‘Before the Money.’ Joey made his television debut as a guest star on the thriller series ‘Mr. Robot’. He portrayed Leon, the protagonist’s best buddy.

Joey was forced to decline an invitation to portray Barack Obama in a biography due to this series. On March 4, 2016, Joey released the single ‘Devastated,’ which served as the lead single from his then-upcoming album, ‘All-Amerikkkan Bada$$. On the ‘Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles’ list, the song peaked at number 25.

The RIAA certified the single as a gold copy due to its record-breaking sales. On January 20, 2017, he released the album’s second single, ‘Land of the Free,’ and on April 7, 2017, the album was published. Joey’s representatives launched the ‘Everybody’s Tour’ a month later. He was supported on the tour by rap and hip-hop acts such as Logic and Big Lenbo.
