Douglas John Booth was born in Greenwich, London, to Vivien (née De Cala), a painter, and Simon Booth, a shipping finance consultant and previously managing director of the shipping finance units of CitiGroup and Deutsche Bank.

Booth’s father is of English descent, while his mother is of Spanish and Dutch origin. Abigail, his older sister, is a graduate of the Chelsea School of Art. Booth was born in Greenwich and relocated to Sevenoaks, Kent when he was ten years old.

Booth made his professional debut in Julian Fellowes’ children’s adventure film From Time to Time (2009), which starred Maggie Smith and Timothy Spall. Following the film’s release, Booth signed with the UTA talent agency for representation in the United States.

He later appeared in a supporting role as Prince Eustace in the Channel 4 mini-series The Pillars of the Earth (2010), a medieval drama starring Ian McShane and Donald Sutherland that was filmed in Budapest.

It’s almost more unsettling for the audience to be fascinated by them, to develop a strong attachment to them, and to see how far they’ll take them.” In February 2015, he starred alongside Mila Kunis, Channing Tatum, and Eddie Redmayne in The Wachowskis’ science-fiction picture Jupiter Ascending.

“They’re the most unique people I’ve ever met,” Booth has remarked of the Wachowskis. “They’ve developed something truly unique, interesting, and bizarre.”

He portrayed Mr. Bingley in Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (2016), a film version of Seth Grahame-novel Smith’s of the same name.
