DJ Snake was born on 13 June 1986 in the Paris district of Ermont to Algerian immigrants. Snake, who grew up in a ghetto, dropped out of school at the age of 15 to work in a renowned record store in Paris. DJ Snake met a slew of renowned hip-hop musicians, rappers, and EDM DJs while working at the iconic record store.

He developed a strong friendship with several of these singers and musicians, including DJ Cut Killer and hip hop performers Cypress Hill and KRS-One, who would eventually become his mentors. DJ Snake once stated in an interview that he became a disc jockey after witnessing DJ Cut Killer compose music for the cult French film “La Haine.”

Snake began his career as a developing DJ, performing performances and events at bars and nightclubs throughout Paris, most notably ‘Les Baines Douches’ and ‘VIP ROOM’. He began with modest, impromptu appearances at house parties and progressed to performing at renowned Parisian venues.

Turn Down for What’ was nominated for a slew of MTV Video Music Awards in 2014, including ‘Best Visual Effects,’ ‘Best Art Direction,’ and ‘Best Direction.’

Ultimately, the song won the MTV Video Music Award for ‘Best Direction.’ Snake and Dillon Francis collaborated in 2014 and debuted ‘Get Low,’ the opening track from the latter’s debut studio album ‘Money Sucks, Friends Rule,’ on their YouTube and SoundCloud pages.

Snake and Dillon Francis alternated as support acts for Skrillex’s 2014 debut music tour, dubbed the ‘Mothership Tour.’

In 2015, he performed at Coachella Music Festival alongside Aluna George, Major Lazer, and M. DJ’s interpretation of the remixed single ‘You Know You Like It,’ originally performed by Aluna George, was included in Coachella 2015’s top 10 Shazamed tracks (listing).

DJ Snake and his colleague Tchami, an electronic dance artist and producer, were unable to attend the Monster Mash Festival in Toronto in 2015 due to serious injuries sustained in an automobile accident.

According to the Associated Press, ‘You Know You Like It was the eighth most-streamed song in the United States of America in 2015 on Spotify, a digital music and video streaming service.

DJ Snake collaborated with Major Lazer on the opening track ‘Lean On’ of the latter’s third studio album, ‘Peace Is the Mission,’ which was released by Mad Decent, a US record label, in March 2015.




By November 2015, ‘Lean On’ had become the most listened to song on Spotify since the service’s launch, with over 526 million downloads.

A video for the track was also launched in the same month as the song, directed by Tim Erem and shot in India. DJ Snake’s subsequent single, ‘Middle,’ was released on 16th October 2015 simultaneously on Spinnin’ Records, Mad Decent, and Interscope Records.

Adio Marchant, better known professionally as Bipolar Sunshine, contributed vocals to the tune. Snake’s next song, ‘Talk,’ was released in June 2016, followed by the video version the following month.

In August 2016, he released his debut studio album, ‘Encore,’ which featured the singles ‘Talk’ and ‘Middle’. Justin Beiber, the acclaimed Canadian singer, was featured on ‘Let Me Love You,’ the third tune on ‘Encore.’
