Jones was born in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on 5th January 1978 parents Karen and Marvin Jones. Her mother worked as a manager at a sporting goods company called ‘Scheels,’ while her father worked as a coach, gym instructor, and fitness trainer.

She spent her childhood in Hecla, South Dakota, alongside her two sisters, Jacey and Jina. She is descended from Danes, English, Germans, Welch, and Czechs. Jones attended public school alongside her siblings. She also worked as a lifeguard and at the local ‘Dairy Queen’ during her summer holiday.

After returning to Sioux Falls, she graduated from ‘Roosevelt High School’ and decided to forego further education in order to pursue a modeling career. Between 2003 and 2006, January Jones dated celebrity Josh Groban.
