Troye Sivan Mellet was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, on 5 June 1995, to South African Jewish parents. Subsequently, the family relocated to Australia for safety reasons. Troye attended ‘Carmel School’ before embarking on a path of distance education.

He came to terms with his homosexuality when he was about the age of 15. Fortunately, his family was supportive, and he also avoided the bullying that many other homosexual children face at school.
