Rishabh Pant was born in Roorkee, Uttarakhand, India on October 4, 1997 to Rajendra and Saroj Pant. Pant would fly to Delhi with his mother on weekends when he was 12 years old to practice with Tarak Sinha at the Sonnet Cricket Academy. He and his mother stayed at a gurdwara in the Moti Bagh neighborhood because they had nowhere else to go in the area.

Pant was advised by Sinha to move to Rajasthan and play U-13 and U-15 cricket, but he declined. Pant’s coach advised him to overhaul his entire batting technique, which is dependent on hand-eye coordination, in order to improve his batsmanship. When he was playing U-19 cricket for Delhi against Assam, he had a watershed moment. Pant had top-scored with 35 runs but was heavily chastised by the coach for throwing away his hat-trick wicket. He then went on to cross 150 in the second innings, which he considers to be his most important innings.

Rishabh Pant made his first-class debut in the 2015–16 Ranji Trophy on October 22, 2015, and his List A debut in the 2015–16 Vijay Hazare Trophy on December 23, 2015.

Pant became the third-youngest Indian to achieve a triple century in first-class cricket when he scored 308 runs in an innings against Maharashtra in the 2016–17 Ranji Trophy. Pant’s century against Jharkhand on November 8, 2016, was the fastest in the Ranji Trophy, coming from just 48 balls. Pant was elected Delhi’s captain for the 2016–17 Vijay Hazare Trophy in February 2017. He succeeded Gautam Gambhir, who had led Delhi to the previous season’s final. Bhaskar Pillai, the Delhi coach, said it was a “consensus call” to give Pant a chance in the future.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced on June 19, 2019, that Dhawan had been ruled out for the remainder of the tournament, and Pant had been named as his replacement. Pant was dubbed the team’s rising star by the International Cricket Council (ICC) after the World Cup.

Pant became the quickest wicket-keeper for India to cause fifty dismissals in Test cricket in September 2019, during the second Test against the West Indies.
