Rebecca Sugar was born in Silver Spring, Maryland, to Rob Sugar and his wife on July 9, 1987. Steven, her younger brother, works as a background designer for her show ‘Steven Universe.’ Sugar went to the Visual Arts Center at Albert Einstein High School and Montgomery Blair High School at the same time.

She went on to the School of Visual Arts in New York after that. In terms of her personal life, the American animator has been married to Ian Jones-Quartey, an animator, writer, and voice artist, since 2008. Sugar is a woman who is bisexual.

Rebecca Sugar began her career with the ‘Adventure Time’ crew as a storyboard revisionist. She was promoted to storyboard artist after a month of joining the show, making her debut in the episode “It Came from the Nightosphere.” She made an animated short film called “Singles” during this time.

While still contributing to ‘Adventure Time,’ Sugar began work on the series ‘Steven Universe.’ She worked on ‘Adventure Time’ until the fifth season then moved on to ‘Steven Universe.’ Sugar returned for a limited time to write “Everything Stays” for Adventure Time’s seventh season special “Stakes.”




Sugar’s story notes and sketches from an unpublished book were featured in an issue of the art/comics anthology series ‘Frontier’ in December 2016. Sugar is also recognized for his work on the animated film ‘Hotel Transylvania,’ where he served as a storyboard artist.

She also contributed to the comic story “Don’t Cry for Me, I’m Already Dead.” End titles for the action-comedy series ‘OK K.O.! Let’s Be Heroes’ was created by her in 2017. ‘Pug Davis,’ a graphic novel by Sugar, is also available.
