He was taught metal work at school by actor Steve Coogan’s father, and he was an altar boy like Coogan. He got down on one knee and proposed to his wife Susan outside of ‘Andy’s Records,’ since that was the first place they kissed. In between all the other jobs, he’s worked in a warehouse packing toilet paper, a supermarket, a video store, a bingo hall, a cash and carry, a mobile disc jockey, and a garage for six years. He says he lied to get into college, claiming he had two ‘A’ Levels and five GCSEs, which he claims were never confirmed.

He was the winner of the So You Think You’re Funny competition in Edinburgh in 1997, as well as the North West Comedian of the Year award. Peter was nominated for the Perrier Award in 1998 after performing his own hour-long show at the Edinburgh Fringe. Peter has a stand-up comedy certificate, which he earned as part of his Btec in Media Performance Studies. His childhood dream was to work as a garbage collector. Two years later, he replicated the feat when his video for (I’m Gonna Be) 500 Miles, which featured a star-studded cast, soared to the top of the UK singles chart. Phoenix Nights was revived in 2015 for a series of live shows in aid of Comic Relief. He toured the UK in 2016 with Peter Kay’s Dance For Life to raise funds for Cancer Research.
