Nicholas Jerry Jonas was born in Dallas, Texas, on September 16, 1992. Kevin and Joe Jonas, his older brothers and future bandmates, raised him in Wyckoff, New Jersey. All three boys grew up playing music together, but Nick was the first to be discovered, singing in a hair salon while his mother was getting her hair cut.
Jonas began his singing career on Broadway when he was seven years old, playing Tiny Tim opposite Frank Langella in the Madison Square Garden production of A Christmas Carol. His Broadway career continued with roles as replacement alternates in Les Miserables and Beauty and the Beast, as well as a role as a replacement in Annie Get Your Gun, opposite Reba McEntire.
Jonas wrote a Christmas song with his father while performing on Broadway, which Columbia Records discovered. In 2004, Jonas signed with the label as a solo artist.
