Braun bought the company outright in 1995. In 1999, Meyer Body was renamed Meyer Distributing. Braun serves as the company’s president and CEO. Braun’s personal financial report for 2018 listed assets ranging from $35 million to $96 million.

In the 2018 election, Braun defeated U.S. Senator Tim Kaine in the Republican Senate primary. Representatives Todd Rokita and Luke Messer were elected by a margin of more than 56,000 votes. He garnered 208,520 votes, or about 41% of the total vote.

Braun ran as an outsider, highlighting his business background. In the November general election, he defeated Democratic incumbent Joe Donnelly with 51 percent of the vote to Donnelly’s 45 percent; the Libertarian candidate, Lucy Brenton, received less than 4% of the vote.

The Indianapolis Star reported in late 2019 that a political action group with strong ties to accused money launderer Lev Parnas and one of his shell companies contributed $2.8 million to Braun’s 2018 campaign.
