Massoud’s parents are Egyptian Coptic Orthodox Christians, and he was born in Cairo, Egypt, to them. He has two older sisters who are his role models. He and his family immigrated to Canada when he was three years old, and he has lived there ever since. When asked why his family had left Egypt, Massoud responded, “I don’t know.”

“It is where I was born. My family and I moved to Toronto when I was three and a half years old. But I’m still very, very close to my culture and – more specifically – to my own country of Egypt. My family is Coptic Christians, and my parents believed that things were becoming a little too dangerous in Egypt when I was growing up.

They wanted to provide a better life for their children, so they decided to immigrate to Canada from their home country.” Massoud grew up in Markham, Ontario, and went to St. Brother André Catholic High School, where he graduated with honors.
