Melanie Martinez was born in Astoria, Queens, on April 28, 1995. Martinez’s family relocated to Baldwin, New York, on Long Island, when she was four years old. She started composing original material in 2013 and spent the whole year writing music for her albums. She self-released her debut single, “Dollhouse,” in February 2014, along with a music video. Her first music projects were crowdfunded, and she was styled by her peers for free.

‘Kinetics & One Love’ co-wrote and recorded ‘Dollhouse,’ and after its massive success, ‘Atlantic Records’ immediately signed her and released her debut EP, ‘Dollhouse,’ which was supported with a ‘Dollhouse’ tour from 2014 to 2015. She revealed in early 2015 that her debut album will be out shortly, and on June 1, 2015, she released the first track from the album, “Pity Party,” which was certified gold by the RIAA, followed by the second single, “Soap,” on July 10, 2015.

Her debut album, “Cry Baby,” was released on August 14, 2015, to immediate acclaim. It went on to reach number 6 on the Billboard 200 music chart in the United States.

She released a holiday song for her fans named “Gingerbread Man” on SoundCloud, and on January 29, 2016, she released it as a single on iTunes. In March of the same year, she released the music videos for “Cry Baby” and “Alphabet Boy,” which were broadcast on music channels in June of 2016. In late 2016, she released her second EP, “Cry Baby’s Extra Clutter,” which included the single “Gingerbread Man.” She posted two music videos for her songs “Mrs. Potato Head” and “Pacify Her” in December 2016.
