Mark Hamill was born in Oakland, California on 25 September 1951. William Thomas Hamill served in the United States Navy, while his mother Virginia Suzanne (née Johnson) stayed at home to raise the children.

He is the brother of two and the sister of four. While his father traces his genealogy to England, Scotland, Wales, and Ireland, his mother was half-Swedish and half-English.

Due to his father’s job, the family moved frequently, and he attended numerous schools in various cities. He graduated from high school in 1969 and then attended Los Angeles City College, where he majored in acting.

His career began with a recurring position on ‘General Hospital,’ followed by a starring role on the sitcom ‘The Texas Wheelers.’ He went on to appear in a variety of additional series over the next few years.
