Kevin Cramer (Politician) Biography

Kevin Cramer was born in the United States, in the town of Rolette, in the state of North Dakota. Clarice and Richard Cramer are his parents’ names. He was born and reared in Cass County, North Dakota, and attended Kindred High School. In 1983, he earned a B.A. from Concordia College in Moorhead, Minnesota. In 2003, he graduated from the University of Mary in Bismarck, North Dakota, with a master’s degree in management.

In 1984, after graduating from college, Cramer ran for the Republican-endorsed tax commissioner candidate Scott Hove. In 1986, he ran a reelection campaign for U.S. Senator Mark Andrews. Senator Kent Conrad of the North Dakota Democratic-Nonpartisan League Party defeated Andrews. Cramer accepted a position with the state Republican Party.

From 1991 to 1993, Cramer was the chairman of the North Dakota Republican Party. He was the youngest individual to be chosen state party chairman at the age of 30.

Cramer was named state tourism director by Republican governor Ed Schafer in May 1993. Jim Fuglie was Cramer’s predecessor, and Bob Martinson was his successor. He held the job until June 1997, when he was promoted to Economic Development Director. Chuck Stroup preceded Cramer as director, and Lee Peterson took over in December 2000.

Cramer became director of the Harold Schafer Leadership Foundation in 2000 after serving as director of economic development. He held the job from 1993 until 2003.

After months of speculation, Cramer stated on January 11, 2018, that he would not seek the Republican Senate nomination to compete against Democratic-NPL incumbent Heidi Heitkamp, but will instead seek reelection to the U.S. House. He stated on February 15 that he had changed his mind and will run for Senate.

Pat Finken, head of the Odney advertising agency, was Cramer’s campaign manager. Cramer received the North Dakota Republican Party’s support on April 7. His campaign reported three days later that it had raised $1.35 million in the first quarter of 2018, the majority of which came in late February and early March.

Cramer was elected to the United States Senate by the Republican Party on June 12, 2018. A spokesperson for the Koch brothers’ political network announced the following month that they would not financially support Cramer’s campaign because the brothers saw him as insufficiently supportive of free trade and fiscal conservatism, as well as holding other views that were incompatible with their own.

Cramer voted against a Senate move to acknowledge the Armenian genocide, which required majority agreement, at Trump’s request in December 2019. Because of his friendship with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoan, Trump voted against the measure. Senator Lindsey Graham had previously voted against such a move, but refused to do so when Trump withdrew a contingent of US soldiers from Syria, allowing the Turks to assault the US’s Kurdish allies who had beaten back ISIS forces.

Cramer tweeted on March 24, 2020, that House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was “retarded.” He then removed the post and apologised, explaining that he meant to type “stupid.” Cramer backed Trump when Joe Biden won the 2020 presidential election and Trump refused to acknowledge, making repeated false and unfounded allegations of fraud.
