Burruss was born in East Point, Georgia, to the Reverend Titus Burruss Jr. and Joyce Jones, and raised there with her siblings. Patrick Riley (1968–1991), her older brother, was killed in a vehicle accident while she was a child.

Attended Tri-Cities High School in East Point, Georgia, where he received his high school diploma in 1994. She made her television debut at the age of 15 on the BET series Teen Summit.

Kandi is most recognized for her work as a lead vocalist with the enormously famous 1990s R&B vocal group Xscape, which she co-founded. As a lead singer on classics such as “My Little Secret,” “Just Kickin’ It,” and “Who Can I Run To,” Burrus also authored several of the band’s early hits, such as “Feel So Good” and “Can’t Hang.”

Burrus was born in Los Angeles, California.  “No Scrubs,” which was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 2000, as well as the Grammy Award for Best R&B Song in 2001.

Kandi has written dozens of other songs for artists such as Mariah Carey, Whitney Houston, *NSYNC, Monica, Alicia Keys, Boyz II Men, Faith Evans, Blu Cantrell, and many, many more.

Kandi was born During the late 1990s when she emerged as a talented singer/songwriter, she was tipped as a leader of a new breed of talented behind-the-scenes female artists, along with songwriting partners Kevin ‘She’kspere’ Briggs (also rumored husband) and Tiny Harris (member of Xscape and co-writer of “No Scrubs”), and she received a standing ovation for her talents.

During the first few weeks after its release, the album, named “Hey Kandi,” did quite well on the charts. Although she had achieved some moderate success as a recording artist, she was pulled from the Columbia Records label, but she continues to write music for other artists through the corporation.

Her second studio album, “I Need,” was published through the indie label “Upfront Records” and marked Burruss’s return to the recording studio.
