Kacey Lee Musgraves was born in Golden, Texas, on August 21, 1988, to Karen and Craig Musgraves. She was born preterm at a weight of only 5 pounds. In Golden, her father operated a small printing press, and her mother was an artist.

She was raised beside a sister called Kelly Musgraves, who eventually established herself as a prominent photographer.

Since she was a child, Kacey has been a music enthusiast. Texas had a strong country music scene, and Kacey couldn’t help but be influenced by it. She began playing the mandolin as a child.
