Josh Brolin Biography

He was born in Santa Monica, California on February 12, 1968, to actor James Brolin and animal activist Jane Cameron (Agee).

He grew up on a ranch in California, with little connection to his father’s professional activities. In the early 1980s, when he was sixteen years old, his parents split.

He developed an addiction to narcotics and eventually admitted to stealing cars to cover his drug bills. His interest in performing began during his senior year of high school.

He traveled to Los Angeles to seek an acting career and lived with his father while receiving acting lessons from the famed Stella Adler. His mother died in a car accident on his twenty-seventh birthday in 1995. In 1998, his father married actress and singer Barbra Streisand.

He married actress Alice Adair in 1988, but the marriage dissolved in 1992. Trevor Mansur, their son, was born in 1988.

Although the couple split, they remained together and Eden was born in 1994. He dated actress Minnie Driver for several years and then married her in April 2001, however, the relationship ended after six months.

In December of that year, the couple had an incident, which resulted in his detention. Diane Lane declined to press charges, and a spokesman for the pair dismissed the event as a misunderstanding. Brolin was eventually cleared of the accusations.

The couple later filed for divorce in February 2013 and were divorced before the end of the year. Josh Brolin and five crew members from the film ‘W,’ including actor Jeffrey Wright, were detained on July 12, 2008, following a brawl at Shreveport, Louisiana’s ‘Stray Cat Bar.’

All of the individuals were later cleared of the allegations by Shreveport prosecutors. In 2013, he was detained once again in Santa Monica on New Year’s Day on suspicion of public intoxication. He became engaged to Kathryn Boyd, a model and former assistant, in 2015.

In 1985, he made his feature picture debut with Richard Donner’s ‘The Goonies,’ which became a box office smash, grossing more than $60 million. His second feature, ‘Thrashin,’ was released in 1986, and he took a lengthy hiatus from film acting after praising his performance in the film as “horrendous.”

He made his television debut in 1987 with the historical crime drama series ‘Private Eye.’ He appears in an episode of the police procedural series ’21 Jump Street’ that year. He shared the stage with Anthony Zerbe for many years in Rochester, New York.

He became well-known for his portrayal of James Butler Hickok in the television series ‘The Young Riders,’ which remains one of his most memorable roles.

He also portrayed an upright cop in the Iraq War drama ‘In the Valley of Elah.’ He eventually gained prominence when he earned the lead part in Ethan and Joel Coen’s 2007 film ‘No Country for Old Men’.

His performance as Llewelyn Moss, a cowboy, in the film remains one of his best, winning him multiple award nods.

In 2008, he released two of his most noteworthy films, the first being a satirical biopic of President George W. Bush, ‘W,’ directed by Oliver Stone and starring Brolin as George W. Bush. Apart from plaudits, the picture got him multiple award nominations.

In the second, a Gus Van Sant film, ‘Milk,’ he portrayed Dan White, a weak and spiteful San Francisco politician. He got multiple honors and a nomination for the ‘SAG Awards’ for the performance, as well as his first-ever ‘Academy Award’ candidacy.

He served as executive producer and actor in the 2009 documentary film ‘The People Speak,’ which was based on the non-fiction book ‘A People’s History of the United States,’ by American historian Howard Zinn.

The film is scheduled to start the ’66th Berlin International Film Festival on February 11, 2016.
