He is best known for his role as Steve Harrington in the American science-fiction horror television series Stranger Things, which is currently streaming on Netflix. Keery has appeared in the comedic films Spree (2020) and Free Guy (2019) among others (2021).

Keery was born in Newburyport, Massachusetts, to David and Nina Keery, who worked as an architect and a professor of English, respectively, at the time of his birth. He is the second of five children, and he grew up with his sisters Caroline, Lizzy, Kate, and Emma as well as their mother and father.
Keery grew up in Newburyport and went to River Valley Charter School, a local Montessori elementary and middle school, as well as Newburyport High School, where he graduated with honors.
When he was younger, he took part in Theater in the Open, a performing arts camp held at Maudslay State Park.
However, he didn’t start acting until high school, where he did so at his older sister’s insistence at first. Keery went on to study acting at DePaul University’s Theatre School, where she earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Acting in 2014 after a year-long internship.

After graduating from DePaul, Keery went on more than a hundred auditions to further his career. Prior to his breakout role in Stranger Things, Keery appeared in commercials for KFC, Domino’s, and amiibo, as well as roles in the television series Empire and the series Chicago Fire.
