Jason Segel was born on January 18, 1980, in Los Angeles, California, to Alvin Segel, a lawyer, and Jillian Segel, a homemaker. His father is a devout Jew, while his mother is a devout Christian. He is the brother of one and the sister of another.

His family is prosperous, and he attended the exclusive Harvard-Westlake School. He developed into a tall, well-built, and athletic adolescent. During this same period, he also developed an interest in acting. He was so taken with movies that he began creating his own.
