Finn Balor Biography

Finn Balor was born Fergal Devitt in Bray, Ireland on July 25, 1981. He is the brother of three brothers and the sister of one. He attended Bray’s St. Cronan’s School. He began his career as a football player as a young boy before deciding to pursue a career as a professional wrestler.

In IBF submission wrestling, he possesses a first-degree black belt. He was a fan of World of Sport and The British Bulldogs as a child, as well as Rick Rude and Mr. Perfect.

Finn Balor Career

Finn Balor made his professional wrestling debut in 2000 at the age of 18 following his training with NWA UK Hammerlock. He went on to win the NWA British Commonwealth Heavyweight Championship in the following year.

Devitt defeated Dru Onyx at the NWA’s 57th Anniversary Show on October 8, 2005. He also wrestled for Millennium Wrestling Federation (MWF) in late 2005, making his debut against Eddie Edwards and John Walters on November 5.

He competed in the NWA’s Reclaiming the Glory tournament in June 2007. He overcame Mikey Nicholls in the first round but fell to Bryan Danielson in the second round. He signed a deal with New Japan Pro-Wrestling in March 2006. (NJPW).

He made his professional debut against El Samurai the following month. He teamed up with the Control Terrorism Unit (CTU) the following year, but his connection with his teammates was strained, and he was issued a warning. He paired up with CTU commander Jushin Thunder Liger against Wataru Inoue and Ryusuke Taguchi in an attempt to reform his ways.

In June 2007, he scored naught in the Super Juniors tournament and was thus ousted from the competition and CTU. In August, he joined the RISE stable with his friend Minoru and created the tag team ‘Prince Prince’.

‘Prince Prince’ won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship in January 2008 but lost it to Akira and Jushin Thunder Liger in February before regaining it in July. However, they lost it to ‘No Limit’ in October.

Finn Balor and Ryusuke Taguchi established the tag team ‘Apollo 55’ and won the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship four times, defending it seven times.

The team won the tournament’s annual Best of the Super Juniors. Balor also achieved other single accomplishments, including three reigns as the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion. Apollo 55 defeated ‘The Motor City Machine Guns’ on July 5, 2009, to capture the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship.

Balor entered the Best of the Super Juniors competition alone in May and progressed to the semifinals before losing to Koji Kanemoto in the finals.

Apollo 55 defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship against Averno and time Guerrero on January 4, 2010. They lost the title in April. He defeated Marufuji in June 2010 to capture the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship for the first time.

Apollo 55 defeated Koji Kanemoto and El Samurai in July to reclaim the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship. Finn Balor defended the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship against Davey Richards in December 2010 and Kota Ibushi in January 2011.

Apollo 55 reclaimed the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship in 2011, making Balor a two-time IWGP champion.  After regaining and relinquishing the championship numerous times in 2011 and 2012, he fought Alex Shelley on April 5, 2013, to earn his third successful defense of the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship.

However, after two days, Apollo 55 lost the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championship to Time Splitters.

Balor then discontinued his collaboration with Taguchi. Finn Balor and American wrestler Karl Anderson, as well as Tongan wrestlers Tama Tonga and Bad Luck Fale, founded ‘Bullet Club’ in May 2013. Balor and Fale defeated Taguchi and Captain New Japan in the first match in May 2013.

He won his second Best of the Super Juniors title in June. He was the first wrestler to hold both the IWGP Junior Heavyweight and IWGP Heavyweight titles concurrently.

‘Bullet Club’ held the IWGP Junior Heavyweight and IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Championships at the end of 2013. Additionally, they won three of the five annual NJPW tournaments. Balor’s career took a significant turn at the club, as he began to progress out of the junior heavyweight division and into IWGP Heavyweight Championship competitions.

Balor was involved in an altercation with his colleagues during a match in April 2014, he finally broke his relationship with ‘Bullet Club’ and resigned from NJPW. He signed with WWE on May 15, 2014, and was immediately promoted to NXT.




He made his professional debut on October 23 alongside Itami, defeating Tyson Kidd and Justin Gabriel. He entered the tournament for the NXT Championship’s No. 1 contender and won it after winning three matches.
