Andrew McLean Galloway IV was born on June 6, 1985, in Ayr, Scotland. He was raised in the neighboring town of Prestwick, where he attended Prestwick Academy. When he was younger, he entertained the idea of becoming a professional football player.

He played for the youth club Prestwick Boys, mostly in defensive positions, before deciding to pursue a career in wrestling.

His favorite wrestler is Bret Hart, who he considers to be his idol. Galloway read a magazine called X-Factor when he was ten years old, which was devoted to conspiracy theories and ghost stories. This prompted him to write a letter to the FBI under the Freedom of Information Act, to which the FBI responded by sending him a file containing several documents pertaining to the investigation.

The young wrestler began preparing for a professional wrestling career when he was 15 years old, and his parents agreed to financially support him so long as he continued to put the same amount of effort into his education.
