David Lawrence Ramsey III is an American personal finance advisor, radio show host, author, and businessman who was born on September 3, 1960. He is an evangelical Christian who hosts The Ramsey Show, a nationally syndicated radio show. Ramsey is the author of many novels, including the New York Times bestseller The Total Money Makeover, and from 2007 to 2010 he hosted a television show on Fox Business.
Ramsey got his real estate licence when he turned 18 years old. He entered the real estate industry shortly after graduating from college. He was able to quickly obtain the money he needed for his real-estate deals because he knew a few people at local banks.
He finally started working for his real-estate company, ‘Ramsey Investments, Inc.,’ which he created. The business grew, and by 1986, he had amassed a $4 million rental real-estate portfolio. His popularity, however, was short-lived.
Ramsey’s real-estate company was financed by a small bank that was sold to a larger bank. The new bank requested that all outstanding loan payments be made as quickly as possible. Even though Ramsey was able to pay off a large portion of the debt, he was still left with a sizable balance. He finally became unable to make the remaining payments and filed for bankruptcy in September 1988.
The financial blow wiped out everything he had worked for up to that point. Ramsey, on the other hand, did not give up hope. He turned to spiritualism to help him stay calm psychologically and emotionally after he had recovered financially to some degree.
He started reading the Bible and went to the local church on a regular basis. On his way home from church, he encountered a man who had suffered a significant financial setback. Ramsey shared his storey with him to inspire him, and he decided to assist the man and his wife by putting together a plan to help them rebound from their financial setback.
Ramsey got an idea for his next business venture after seeing the gesture. He started delivering Christian financial counselling to couples at his local church after learning from his previous financial mistakes.
Ramsey attended workshops and seminars on consumer financial issues at the same time, which, when combined with his own knowledge, helped him develop a series of lessons and materials for his counselling firm.
