When Chingy was a child, he lived in Walnut Park in St. Louis, Missouri, which he has called “the Bad Blocks.” In the beginning, he started writing lyrics when he was 9 and started making raps when he was 10.

He used to be known as H Thugz. He was in a group called Without Warning with M.G.D. and Mysphit in St. Louis.

This would end with the creation of Chingy’s own Capitol label, Slot-A-Lot. In 2004, Powerballin’ would be his first album for the label. It had the singles “Balla Baby” and “Don’t Worry.” Punk’d and The George Lopez show was on TV in 2005, and a year later he would be in Scary Movie 4.

The follow-up single, “Dem Jeans,” didn’t do as well, but the album did go gold. To get back to DTP, Chingy jumped ship and went back to Def Jam, which was then part of Capitol. He didn’t like how Capitol was marketing their urban artists so he went back.

When the album came out in 2007, Hate It or Love It would be on the label. At number 84 on the album chart, it would be its highest position. In 2009, he said that he was working on a new album that would be out that year.
