Antony Mackie was born on September 23, 1978, in the city of New Orleans, Louisiana, in the United States of America, to parents Willie Mackie, Sr., and Martha Mackie. Calvin Mackie’s brother, Calvin Mackie, was an Associate Professor of Engineering at the University of California, Berkeley. Calvin Mackie was the brother of Calvin Mackie.

His formal schooling comprised studies at the North Carolina School of the Arts (NCSA) and the Juilliard School of Music (J.S. Bach Conservatory).
